CIT: Counselor-In-Training Program
CIT: Counselor-In-Training Program
CAMP DATES: June 15 - August 21
GRADE: Students rising to Grade 8
CAMP EXPERIENCE:
The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program at Summers @ Pennington is a meaningful first step for students ready to grow as leaders and role models within our vibrant camp community. More than a title, becoming a CIT is a distinction—one that blends passion with compassion, conviction with caring, and empathy with action.
CITs learn how to deepen their connection to others, engage with purpose, and embody the core values that guide The Pennington School: honor, virtue, and humility. Throughout the program, participants will develop teamwork skills, explore the developmental stages of younger campers, and learn to prioritize the needs of others over their own. Along the way, they form new friendships, develop their communication skills, and practice working cooperatively with peers and staff mentors.
As the program progresses, CITs will evolve into confident, thoughtful representatives of our summer programs community. Guided by trained leadership staff, they will gain hands-on experience supporting age-appropriate camper groups, contribute to engaging activities, and help to create a safe and inclusive environment. CITs are encouraged to take initiative, think creatively, and embrace opportunities to lead with maturity and insight.
By the end of their experience, CITs will emerge as stronger leaders, but also as positive influences who help shape the spirit of Summers @ Pennington.
